iJeepney ("we," "us," "our") is committed to protecting your privacy and complying with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (Republic Act No. 10173) of the Republic of the Philippines. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our mobile application and web platform ("App").
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information Collected from Drivers
When you register as a driver, we collect the following information:
- Personal Information: Full name, email address, phone number, driver's license number
- Location Data: Real-time GPS location data, collected only while you actively share your location through the App during your designated driving schedule
- Device Information: Device model, operating system, browser type, and unique device identifiers
- Usage Data: Information about how you interact with the App, including access times and features used
1.2 Information Collected from Passengers
Passengers can use the App anonymously without registration. We collect:
- Location Data: Real-time GPS location data, collected only when you actively choose to share your location with drivers. Location sharing is entirely optional.
- Device Information: Device model, operating system, and browser type
- No Personal Identifying Information: We do not require or collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, or any other personal identifying information from passengers
1.3 Information We Do NOT Collect
We want to be transparent about what we do not collect:
- Contact lists or address books
- Photos, videos, or media files
- SMS messages or call logs
- Camera access (except for future driver verification features, with your explicit consent)
- Microphone or audio recordings
- Payment or financial information
- Browsing history or web activity outside the App
- Background location data when the App is closed or not in use
- Historical location data (location data is not stored after sharing ends)
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect for the following purposes:
- Service Delivery: To display real-time jeepney locations to passengers and enable location sharing between drivers and passengers
- Driver Verification: To verify the identity and legitimacy of drivers through administrative review of driver's license numbers and contact information
- Notifications: To send push notifications to drivers when passengers share their location nearby
- Account Management: To enable drivers to access and manage their accounts, including password recovery via email
- Route Information: To display jeepney routes and schedules to help passengers find available jeepneys
- App Functionality: To enable core features such as route filtering, schedule management, and driver-jeepney assignments
- Analytics and Improvement: To analyze App usage through Firebase Analytics to improve functionality, user experience, and service quality
- Security: To maintain the security and integrity of the App and prevent fraudulent or unauthorized activity
- Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes
3. How We Share Your Information
3.1 Information Shared with Other Users
Drivers: The following driver information is visible to all passengers using the App:
- Driver's full name
- Jeepney plate number (assigned by admin)
- Real-time location (only while actively sharing during designated schedule)
Driver phone numbers, email addresses, and driver's license numbers are NOT visible to passengers.
Passengers: If you choose to share your location:
- Your real-time location becomes visible to drivers who are actively sharing their location
- Drivers receive a brief push notification when you start sharing your location nearby
- No other passenger information is shared
3.2 Information Shared with Administrators
App administrators have access to the following information for verification and management purposes:
- All driver registration information (name, email, phone, driver's license number)
- Jeepney information (plate number, LTFRB number, operator name)
- Driver-jeepney assignments and schedules
- Route information
- App usage data and analytics
Administrators cannot access driver passwords or historical location data (as location data is not stored).
3.3 Third-Party Service Providers
We use the following third-party services to operate the App:
- Mapbox: For mapping, route display, and location services
- Firebase (Google): For user authentication, real-time database, analytics, and cloud services. Data is stored in Firebase's North America region (nam5)
- Vercel: For web hosting and application deployment
These third-party providers may have access to your information only to perform tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for any other purpose. Your use of these services through our App is subject to their respective privacy policies.
3.4 We Do NOT Sell Your Data
Your data is never sold, rented, or traded to third parties.
We do not share your information with advertisers, marketers, or data brokers. We do not display targeted advertisements. Your data is used solely to provide and improve the iJeepney service.
4. Data Storage, Retention, and Security
4.1 Where We Store Your Data
Your data is stored using Firebase cloud services in the North America region (nam5). While our users are based in the Philippines, this data is transferred to and stored in servers located in North America. By using the App, you consent to this international transfer of data.
4.2 Location Data Storage
Important: Real-time location data is NOT permanently stored. Location data is transmitted in real-time only and is immediately deleted when:
- A driver stops sharing their location
- A passenger stops sharing their location
- The App is closed or location sharing is disabled
- A driver's designated schedule ends
We do not maintain location history or tracking logs.
4.3 Data Retention for Drivers
Driver account information (name, email, phone, driver's license number) is retained for as long as:
- Your driver account remains active, OR
- Until you request account deletion
Upon account deletion, all driver personal information is permanently deleted from our systems immediately. There is no retention period. Jeepney and schedule data may be retained for operational purposes, but will no longer be associated with your personal information.
4.4 Data Security Measures
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:
- HTTPS/SSL encryption for all data transmission
- Secure Firebase authentication with encrypted password storage
- Firebase security rules to control data access
- Regular security audits and updates
- Access controls limiting administrator permissions
However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
4.5 Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach that may affect your personal information, we will notify affected users and the National Privacy Commission (NPC) within 72 hours of discovery, as required by the Data Privacy Act of 2012.

As a data subject under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012, you have the following rights:

You have the right to be informed about the collection and processing of your personal data.

You have the right to access your personal data and request copies of the information we hold about you.

You have the right to object to the processing of your personal data under certain circumstances.
Right to Erasure or Blocking
You have the right to request deletion or blocking of your personal data.
Right to Rectification
You have the right to correct inaccurate or incomplete personal data.
Right to Data Portability
You have the right to obtain and transfer your data to another service provider.
Right to Damages
You have the right to be indemnified for damages sustained due to inaccurate, incomplete, outdated, false, or unlawfully obtained personal data.

6. Account Deletion for Drivers
Drivers may request deletion of their account at any time through:
- In-app account settings
- The Data Deletion Request Form available on the Google Play Store listing
- Email request to quossettel@gmail.com
Upon receiving a deletion request, all personal information associated with your driver account will be permanently deleted immediately. This includes your name, email address, phone number, and driver's license number. Location data is not stored, so there is no historical location data to delete.
7. Children's Privacy
Passengers: The App is available to users of all ages. Minors (individuals under 18 years of age) should use the App under parental or guardian supervision. We do not knowingly collect personal identifying information from passengers, including children.
Drivers: Only individuals 18 years of age or older may register as drivers. By registering as a driver, you represent and warrant that you are at least 18 years old.
8. Push Notifications
Drivers receive push notifications and audio alerts when passengers share their location nearby. These notifications are essential for the functionality of the service.
Currently, there is no in-app option to disable these notifications. However, you may disable notifications from the App through your device's system settings. Please note that disabling notifications may significantly impact the functionality and usefulness of the App for drivers.
9. Background Location and Future Features
The current web-based version of iJeepney does not collect location data when the browser is closed or the App is not in use. Location sharing stops immediately when you close the browser or navigate away from the App.
We plan to develop a native mobile application using React Native in the future. If background location features are implemented, we will update this Privacy Policy and request your explicit consent before collecting any background location data.
10. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We reserve the right to update or modify this Privacy Policy at any time. When we make changes, we will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this document. Material changes will be communicated through:
- In-app notifications
- Email notifications to registered drivers
- Prominent notice on our website and App
Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated Privacy Policy. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.
